Welcome to the homepage of the Mental Health Project. We are gathering here a range of resources to help increase spiritual and pastoral support for those with mental health needs, their families and carers in parishes, deaneries, dioceses, schools, hospitals, universities, prisons and organisations in the Catholic Church in England and Wales.

Thanks to the Day for Life funds generously given by parishioners in collections in 2008 and 2009 the Bishops’ Conference has appointed a Mental Health Project Worker. A range of several small grants totalling £70,000 has also been distributed. Please click here to see descriptions of the funded projects.

The themes for this project are to:

• Increase pastoral and spiritual care for those with mental health needs, their families and carers across the Catholic communities in England and Wales
  
• Advocate for the pastoral needs of Catholics affected by mental ill-health
  
• Continue to support and develop a self-sustaining network of those within the Catholic community in England and Wales with a special interest in locally based support for people with mental health needs.
